The Gatekeeper: «Sunset warrior»

Image
Model: "The Gatekeeper" Company: Nocturna Models Scale: 54 mm Story: When I first shaw this miniature I inmediately felt in love with it: 60 mm high, very well detailed, and a good price. It combines skin, metals, clothes and show a strong and unic character. As disadvantage it is worth mentioning its static posture, cause I prefer looking for more dinamic sceneries. First of all, I had to decide the scenery: a palace with a gate, a castle ruins, or a natural landscape? I choosed the last one. In that time I was reading to Roman Lappat on " Massive Voodoo ", about meaning and importance of the environment. I decided to create a scene where the sunset light would be the main actor, adapting the figure acording to it. By adding some pine cork pieces, milliput and sand, a general scene was appearing... Some pieces of dry grass just to add some natural pattern: Using different purple tones and choosing the lig

Jamal bust: «THE TRUE ADAM»

Model: "Jamal" Company:  Fer miniatures  (Forged Monkey) Scale: 1/16 Sculpture: Raffaele Picca "Story behind the scene": I was looking for a bust, my first one as a painter. I did not know if I could do it well, so I decided not to spend a lot of money. Fer Miniatures own some cheap but beautiful busts on their web, so I chosed one. "Jamal" is the comercial name of this bust, representing a "bad guy". What I imagined at the begining was quite different: some years ago I read a scientific paper called: "The true Adam". DNA analysis showed that our common ancestor was in fact black. So I used that idea as an inspiring one. I decided to practice black skin tones. By surfing on the internet and taking some photos I realized that there are many kinds of black skin, that define general tones, but also lights (from white or pink, to blue or grey). I chosed the more orange-pinky kind, due to our ancestor should be a mixture be

YARRY: "Walking to Erebor (The Hobbit)"

Model: "Yarry, light feet" Company: Enigma miniatures Scale: 54 mm Story: I really fell in love with this mini: his posture and face make it unique and special, with a strong character. It was one of my first miniatures, so as a beginner I found it quite small and difficult at the beginning (Note that despite the scale is 54 mm, it is only 35 mm tall). As an advantage, it is only one piece!! As a first goal, I wanted to define a good and realistic base, full of wood elements. I was thinking of the "Mirkwood forest", so maybe my Hobbit would be Bilbo Baggins, looking for the correct path, followed by the dwarfs. Some wood pieces and cork are always quite useful. I also added little stones in the lower part, maybe it will be a river... I sometimes use different materials in order to get different textures: coffee, cinnamon, sand... Milliput to create some mushrooms and to finish the corners: Double primer just to see where could be t
