Random Encounter: "Autumn is coming"

Model: "Random encounter" Company: Fer Miniatures Sculpted by: Jonatán Monerris Scale: 54 mm Story: This was my first miniature serious project. I decided taking a painting course with Zwo, who teached us the basic principles and technics, use of brush, etc. I made some common mistakes, for example using too saturated tones... First attempt of basing: to create a natural forest with some natural components. I used different materials and textures, like pieces of wood, tea leafs or coffee. I was not happy at all, so I decided to recycle the entire project, trying different (and more unsaturated) colors and adding more components on the base. Final result (for the moment, it should not be definitive):

SENTINEL 40K: "Troubles on the border"

Image
Model: Warhammer 40K sentinel Company: Games Workshop Story: I always wanted to learn weathering-rusting effects, applied on robots or Sci-fi machines. I spent some days looking for something useful when I found this piece on the 2nd hand market. It was very bad painted and broken, but I decided to restore it. A bottle of alcohol 96º and toothbrush can clean it in just 24 h, cheap and effective! First, I applied black primer and I started the composition. My first idea was to create a Sci-fi scenery, which included a duel between the sentinel and an Infinity Igao unit. The last was discarted later, because of the huge size differences... I added some pieces of plastic, which would be iron later. I modified sentinel´s legs position, looking for a more dynamic scene Double (Black & white) primer helps a lot defining lights and shadows. In this case, our light source would come from the right side of the photo: Testing weathering effects...

AIRTIS & ARTEMIS: "FROZEN LAKE"

Model (male): Airtis  Company: Enigma miniatures Scale: 54 mm Model (female): Artemis Company: Hasslefree miniatures Scale: 40 mm Story: This is a long-term project, almost a year from the begining to the end. Basing was complex but results were not bad at all.  First of all, I put some tree crust pieces forming a "three levels" composition, simulating rocks. Rocks in nature are meteorized and eroded, forming soils, I made it with real sand and some cork pieces. Later, vegetation covers little by little these soils. I used natural components picked up from the forest. Some grass and wood pieces will give a more natural aspect. I added the figure in the top, as a watcher of all the scene. Is important wondering what is he doing relative to his body position. Trees are always important simulating nature. In this case I added too much pieces, so I retired some of them later.  Testing tones. Blue gives us a "cold" environment. ...
